Leadership

"Leadership in this County has a very simple but consequential choice – we either dedicate ourselves to revisioning how we do law enforcement here, starting with taking care of our people first, focusing on mental and physical health, training, education and standards and pay. If we don’t, someone or some other agenda will."

Leadership for Our Community and its Protectors

 LEADERSHIP STARTS WITH A MISSION.
To ensure a well-rounded, highly trained, and competent effort providing public safety services and protection to our citizens, with integrity, community investment, selfless service, courage, compassion, and common sense –
IN A MANNER THAT ENSURES PUBLIC TRUST.

LEADERSHIP WITH COMMON SENSE.
It’s that simple.

LEADERSHIP TO ENSURE THE PROTECTION OF YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.
NOT empowering trivial executive orders and mandates …

LEADERSHIP TO ENSURE THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF YOUR FAMILY, YOUR PROPERTY, YOUR BUSINESS.
It’s time someone speaks up for those that contribute to our community, not just for those who victimize it.

LEADERSHIP THAT PLACES OUR PROTECTORS FIRST.
Josh’s administration will start with taking care of those who protect you. He knows firsthand if you take care of your people, support them, provide them with the proper tools and equipment – they will accomplish the mission.

“Everyone talks about building a relationship with your customer. I think you build one with your employee first”
– Angela Ahrendts

LEADERSHIP MUST PROVIDE AND SUPPORT QUALITY TRAINING.
Law enforcement is grossly undertrained, aggravated in the post-George Floyd era. Administrations that value budget surplus over providing a sincerely effective and well-trained law enforcement service to the community are reckless, negligent, and irresponsible. In simple terms – they fail as leaders and ultimately fail YOUR community.

“I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.” ― Mark Twain

LEADERSHIP THAT BELIEVES IN STANDARDS THAT MAKE SENSE AND BUILD THE TEAM.
Through education and training standards, Josh’s administration will invest in our staff, building future leaders and critical components of the team.

“Employees cannot become more productive in every sense of the word unless they are provided with continuous on-the-job training.” — Gregory Balestrero

LEADERSHIP WITH A RENEWED VISION.
Under Josh’s leadership, luck will not be confused with doing the right thing. The responsible agencies across the country are revising law enforcement throughout their jurisdictions. Goodhue County not doing the same is irresponsible and negligent. Under Josh’s leadership, the Office will stay current, study and research the latest best practices, and implement change appropriate for Goodhue County. We will be ahead of the “next thing”.

LEADERSHIP THAT WILL SET THE EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW.
It starts at the top.

LEADERSHIP TO ENSURE THAT PEACE AND ORDER IS THE STANDARD IN GOODHUE COUNTY AND THE CITIES WITHIN ITS BORDERS.
Threats and intimidation against citizens and businesses for speaking for what they believe may be ok in other places – NOT HERE…

“There is no such thing as luck, merely opportunity meeting preparedness.” – George S. Patton

LEADERSHIP TO STAND AGAINST UNREASONABLE POLICE REFORM AGENDAS THAT UNDERMINE PUBLIC SAFETY.

Not hide from it but standing up and actively engaging against it through articulation, transparency and law enforcement training, education and standards. Let’s learn from the past and prevent the unfortunate situations that REPEATEDLY bring this issue to light.

“Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients”
– Richard Branson

LEADERSHIP THAT STANDS FOR THE FEW THAT PROTECT THE MANY.
Josh will stand for his people. He will be the voice for pay, benefits, tools, and equipment to set the standard for public safety services in Goodhue County.

“The only thing worse than training employees and losing them is to not train them and keep them.” — Zig Ziglar

LEADERSHIP MUST PROVIDE AND SUPPORT REAL EDUCATION.
Josh is a strong advocate for education. However, he also believes that education comes through several avenues’ contrary to some traditional beliefs. Under Josh’s administration, quality job-related education will be a continuous effort for the Office.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” —Nelson Mandela

LEADERSHIP TO ENSURE TRANSPARENCY TO THE PUBLIC – DEMAND IT FROM OUR POLITICAL AND SOCIAL LEADERS.
Taxpayers and citizens deserve to know what their tax dollars are paying for in the community. Josh’s administration will set the example for consistent and ongoing transparency, informing and communicating to our citizens. However, our protectors deserve answers from our political and social leaders who scream “accountability” and push “police reform.” The men and women accomplishing public safety will have a voice too.

LEADERSHIP NEEDS TO SUPPORT PROACTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT.
We have seen firsthand the consequences of those jurisdictions that have gone to purely reactive enforcement and doing the bare minimum on the streets. Here, in Goodhue County, our law enforcement lacks confidence in their leadership. This loss in confidence results in a loss of initiative on the streets. We open our cities and townships for an invite from those that wish to exploit the opportunity adversely. We see this in thefts, drugs, catalytic converter thefts, criminal damage to property, impaired driving, and the day-to-day calls for service our Deputy’s respond.

“A leader’s words matter, but actions ultimately do more to reinforce or undermine the implementation of a team of teams. Instead of exploiting technology to monitor employee performance at levels that would have warmed Frederick Taylor’s heart, the leader must allow team members to monitor him. More than directing, leaders must exhibit personal transparency. This is the new ideal.” ― Stanley McChrystal, Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World
